Everybody should love this picture. The Mercury Mets was such a dumb idea that it was beyond just stupid–it was what is fun about the Mets to begin with: risky and unbelievably weird. If you think a team with a manager who put a disguise on to get back in the dugout and having a loose cat on the field during the first game in a new stadium isn't worthy of such a bad promotion, I say: Ventura's Non-Grand Slam Grand Slam could only happen on Mercury. When this game aired I knew nothing about it and thought it was a minor league game…or that they flew everyone to Japan…or space.
where the hell was I when all this was going on? I vaguely remember the Mercury Mets thing, but I don't remember seeing it at all. unless I've suppressed the memories.
