I spent last night at Citi with Mets Police Jr. I got about 50 pictures in before my iphone ran dry. It was annoying to walk around and see random stuff with no camera.
The throwbacks are on sale in the main store and a few of the others. I really want one, but not for the $170 price tag.
I don’t care what attendance number they published, the stadium was half full. The crowd was evenly distributed so it’s not like you’ll see empty sections in the pictures, but there are plenty of no-shows.
As for the “Mets stuff” it’s really out of the way. I didn’t notice the Seaver montage until I was leaving – the way the montages are you won’t see them unless you are walking counter-flow. Say you enter at the rotunda and walk to the right – you will be all the way back around to LEFT field until you notice anything. Hang some banners.
The new video screens are nice although a tad distracting. Most people will like them. I’d rather be able to see the LFer without watching the game I’m at on TV.
We hit the batting care at 6:50 and were second on line. Junior really liked that. The line for bigger kids was a little longer.
He got restless in the 4th so we headed down to Mr. Met’s field (whatever it is called). It cost daddy two innings but once you get to the front of the line you get to play LF for one batter, then CF, then RF and then you get two swings. Junior hit the second off the “408” in center which isn’t bad at all for his 6 year old frame. We left after the 6th, the game was a dud.
Now to the headline. Yep, I bought a black Mets shirt. The stores are trying to get rid of all the Ryan Church wear and you can get a nice looking name + number t-shirt for 5 bucks. I got myself one (blue of course) figuring it would be cool and random in a few years and Junior wanted one for himself.
He wanted black!
Why? “I dunno, I like it.”
What to do? I could lecture a six year old about team history. I could get him a blue one and have him not quite be happy with it. I could make him cry.
Nope. It was five bucks. I spend $7 or so on a cup of beer, so $5 is like the price of breathing at a major league stadium. $5 to develop a love of baseball, the Mets (even if black, and there’s a whole generation now that knows nothing but Piazza, Bobby V, 2006 and black) and a nice father-son night.
We bought the black t-shirt…..and I got him a blue one too for good measure.

Hi, where did you get the Church t-shirt from??? I have been searching high and low for one!
I bought it at the team shop at Citi Field. They were $5 on the last homestand. They were in the main store and the store on the field level.
