Some good stuff here on NBCNewYork about the uniform change, including a link to a color photo of vintage Seaver. Nothing new, but the spin is that once again the Mets tried to get something right and failed.
Why oh why would they keep the black shading?

I actually like the black trim/highlighting in the current uniforms. it goes great with the while pinstripes. i don't like the black tops or hats though. we need to stay with orange, blue, and true white as our traditional colors (though i forget that the uniforms from the 1960s were more creme colored), but staying away from the orange tops that they had in Spring Training a few years back. blue tops with black on it has to go (see the picture of Jose Reyes in your "Most Popular" section on the right). blue with the traditional orange/white logos works (like in the photo I sent you).
I don't want to rush to judgment on new uniforms until an official announcement is made and we see players modeling them (maybe just in time for Christmas?). but the Wilpons must realize that anything they do right now (or in the offseason) is probably going to have the negative spin that they've earned attached to it.
The Mets can wear tie-die uniforms if they want to… as long as they win.
If they string together another disappointing season of bad fundamental baseball, I won't care if they bring back my favorite home uniforms (the 80s racing stripe ones.)
