Interesting note here that Selig is looking into a post-World Series with the MLB champion playing the winner of the Japan Series. If memory serves, that would have suggested a Yankees-Giants series.

I’d actually be more interested in Phillies-Ham Fighters than I was in Phillies-Rays. I could have done with another week of Yankees last fall (sorry Mets fans, I enjoy sports on TV. Yell at Jeff not me.)
I guess it would have to be neutral site? I don’t see fans sitting in Yankee Stadium, sorry I mean Citi Field on November 10th, nor do I see a point to a 5am game on the 13th after a 25 hour flight.
I don’t want to hear about innings and pitch-counts and all that nonsense. Baseball was fine for 100 years with 4 man rotations and guys throwing their arms off. Man up and pitch.

One word: HORRIBLE. The World Series is the championship of baseball; all this meaningless series with the Japanese winner would do is degrade it. Yeah, it might make for some entertaining exhibition play, but are they going to bill it as that? Of course not. They're going to make it seem important. So what happens when a team wins the World Series – does it become like winning the LCS? It's nice, but you keep it muted because you haven't won it all yet? And imagine the Mets actually won a World Series some time. We've been waiting decades for that – and then what if they lost to some Japanese team? Would that mean they weren't actually the champions, that they didn't go all the way? Obviously not, because only the World Series matters, but not everyone would see it that way; it would be a stain where there should never be one.
The World Series is the championship of baseball. When you win it, you have reached the absolute heights. All this series would do is degrade that notion. Don't do it, Bud!
