Now that I bothered to make poor man’s Opening Credits for my proposed series How I Met The Mets people are starting to pay attention.
This if for Jeff from Flushing and the cats over at SNY.
We don’t like Beer Money. Nobody cares. Yes it is probably cheap to produce but nobody cares. We like the live shows and we like Mets Yearbook.
What the channel lacks is an -orgaphy show. Rather than be all uppity like other regional cable networks, stay in the style of the Mets and have fun with it.
In How I Met The Mets a middle aged Mets fan is boring his kids to tears with stories of years gone by, just like a certain popular CBS sitcom.
For example, we could begin with:
“Kids, did I ever tell you about the time Jesse Orosco played the outfield?”
Roll credits.
Show some stills. Show some video if you have it. Interview Ronnie and Keith about the game.
Maybe the episodes are half an hour, maybe they are 15 minutes.
Maybe you may just 10 episodes to start.
Oh, and have FUN and BE HONEST about it. Kids, it was the summer of 2007 and we were on our way to the playoffs…(clips)….yeah we were crushed, but on Opening Day 2008 I was there at Shea and we knew this would be our year, but that’s a story for next time.
Or have some fun with off-field stuff from 2011. “Kids, did I ever tell you about the time Mr. Met showed up at Uncle Tony’s birthday party?” We never see this stuff. I bet if you had Mr. Met show up at Tony’s birthday for free he’d let you film it.
Best of all, like everything else I write about: I don’t want anything from you. I just want to watch it.
Discuss at this week’s staff meeting.
Oh, while I have you – I don’t know if you saw this or if you have the 88 playoffs but I do. You are welcome to borrow them to make HIMTH episodes.
I don’t hate Beer Money. it seems decent filler. nothing special, but decent enough for bars and gatherings when you’re half paying attention. (still waiting for my episode to air..Sunday?)
Doesn’t mean they can’t have How I Met the Mets though. go for it. random stuff is fine, again a lot of it’s just gonna be filler and fun stuff to watch for rain delays.
I like the idea. My friend and fellow Mets fan Steve want to host a show called ‘Meet the Mets’ where we travel around the country in a Volkswagen bus and track down some of our favorite Mets and sit down and talk about their time on the Mets and find out what they’re doing now. First eprsode, Don Hahn and George Theodore.
I love Meet the Mets as well. Hopefully someone is reading.
What about “Do you know more Mets trivia than a Mets Icon?”
