Here’s another vintage article from the summer of 1977.
In this one:
- Dick Young says Seaver is no All-Star
- A young outfielder named Steve Henderson is praised for his success with the Mets, and the way he immediately joined the team after the trade rather than taking a day or two.
- Nolan Ryan wasn’t initially selected to the All Star team. This article is dated July 20th and says Ryan has 13 wins and 234 strike outs. No type TWO HUNDRED THIRTY FOUR. Jeez Louise, who DID make the team?
In case you are wondering, the Mets sent John Stearns as their rep. That’s why old guys like me wax poetic about Stearns and Mazzilli. They were “All-Star” players in our formative years.
