This one might mainly interest my fellow bloggers but…holy cow, the Devils have created a social media room at The Rock. Let’s watch the video, then discuss.
First of all, I like that the NHL has this fancy “embed” technology that MLB Advanced Media does not use.
I really can’t believe the Devils have built such a room. 25 fans, computers, and some TVs. I’m blown away.
That being said, I don’t need one at Citi Field. Some of my fellow bloggers may disagree, but when I head out there I want to, you know, attend a baseball game. I’m not a reporter. I don’t want to sit in the Verizon Blogger Center writing things during the third inning, and I don’t want to stick around after the game filing blogs.
Do I want credentials? I don’t think I do. Then I’d have to use them. I don’t want to head out there every night and talk to David Wright. That’s now what I do.
Now, the occassional hook-up from the Mets? Last year they invited the bloggers on the field, twice I think (I did one of the events). I am not going to lie to you, yeah of course that is way cool. Would I have liked to gotten a preview of the museum before it opened? Yeah, absolutely. An invitation to Lee Mazzilli Day? You betcha. Is it cool when they send me some photos to share with you guys – yep. Post-game notes? Awesome.
I think what the Devils did is pretty neat though, and I’m definitely “pro.” I’d be curious what you guys think?
I agree. Although a room could be pretty cool. I know the Islanders have a ‘bloggers box’ or something too.
So beyond the handful that do like the credentials aspect of it, what would be the use for the rest of us, that don’t quite want to ask David Wright why he swung 3-0? (but still are interested in the answer)
Mostly we all get by with snapping pictures and interacting on Twitter via our phones. We have regular jobs so we can’t get there much before the game, and can’t stay out that late either.
something to think about.
It seems to me, the Devils are getting a bunch of fans to work for the team. They’re interns, it’s just that no one told them.
It’s the best advertising of the product at zero cost. Why wouldn’t they do it? Every one of us who has a Mets blog out there, even mine with all 6 of it’s daily viewers, is promoting the team, and dispensing information without costing the team a dime.
Maybe with this years team it may be a good idea.
I like to go to a game and actually watch it!
Shannon,
starting pitchers fro your games in FL!
Jenrry Mejia will get the ball for the spring-training opener next Saturday against the Atlanta Braves.
The Mets have a split squad the following day. Chris Capuano is scheduled to face the University of Michigan, while Pat Misch, Chris Young or Oliver Perez starts on the road.
Mike Pelfrey then goes Feb. 28.
I don’t think the Mets need a social media room. We’ve got a ton of pro media outlets covering the team, and for the most part they’re good at it.
I read fan blogs for a different perspective, and I don’t think making fans into unpaid semi-official media be a positive move.
