Roger McDowell has been suspended for two weeks without pay. I’m not out to trash Mets, I’m not happy Roger will lose money, I’m not happy the fan had a lousy incident at the ballpark.
I am happy that MLB responded to the incident (via Daily News)
“Major League Baseball is a social institution that brings people together and welcomes all individuals of different races, religions, genders, national origins and sexual orientations into its ballparks,” Selig said in his statement. “Conduct by people associated with MLB that shows insensitivity to others simply cannot and will not be tolerated. I understand that Mr. McDowell is very contrite about his conduct, and hopefully this incident will be used to increase public awareness of the importance of sensitivity to others. I commend Justin Quinn and his family for bringing this issue to our attention so that it will not happen again in the future.”
While we spend our disposable income watching grown men play with sticks we should all feel safe at the ballpark.
I’m happy that MLB took action here.
However, I was hopping for a bit more from an office that decided to suspend a manager for two games for posting to Twitter after he got ejected.
