Check out this one – which contains a ballcap car. Those of us of a certain age will recall that pitchers would come in from the bullpen in one of these cars. There was a Mets version, but also a custom version for each opponent! Presumably they swapped the top.

Wow! Thats great! The thing is thats a newer commercial and we havent seen the bullpen car in years. Is it still around somewhere?
The bullpen cars were used from about 1971-1982 I’d guess. I saw it up close once. They put a different cloth cover on for each visiting team’s cap…surrounding each headlight was an authentic leather baseball glove.
oh shit that takes me back (and not just to when that commercial aired)…yup, they had those for the metsies and i believe you’re correct in that they swapped the caps depending upon the visiting team…it’s funny now, because those things took FOR-EFFING-EVER to get from the pen to the mound, but no one seemed to mind…i think the yankees were (at least for a time) using a POS pinstriped toyota to shuttle their pitchers in from the pens
great stuff
Right Phil…I think they used a Datsun originally.
great call steve…maybe it was always a datsun (my first car was actually a datsun b-210, about 30 years ago)…
my boss over at UW did a pretty sweet write up on bullpen *cars* for ESPN…good read if you haven’t seen it
those cars rocked. I want to know where the one came from in the 90s for the commercial
My wife used to run into the room to see these commercials. It was a great series they should make more like these!
