Over all, Carter hit just .249 with the Mets, and was their catcher for only five seasons in Flushing.
But Reggie Jackson played just as long with the Yankees, who retired his No. 44 and revere him as a franchise icon. Carter’s heroics in the 1986 World Series — two home runs in Game 4, a rally-sparking single in the 10th inning of Game 6, his leap onto Jesse Orosco after the final out in Game 7 — might deserve similar recognition at Citi Field.
