Last night this commercial starting troubling me, then a major twitter discussion broke out. Here watch, then keep reading..
Some things bothered me.
It is clearly daylight as they sit to watch the game. As I write this at 9pm last night it is 4am in Istanbul. 7 hours.
Theory: they are watching the Mets play on the West Coast.
How are they getting this game? Is it on ESPN America? (that’s a real channel)
Do they have a slingbox hooked up to a DVR back in the States?
Do they have a PS3 and they watch it on MLB.TV? Roku?
One way or another this is one technically savvy couple.
Next – who are the Mets playing? Is this even a Mets game? That’s not Citi nor Shea (an old DVD?) The dirt from home to the dugouts doesn’t match either stadium.
Could it be…Dodger Stadium?
Many mysteries.
Then there is this “national” version of the ad where the couple are generic fans
And finally this…is that the same couple? I’m not entirely sure..especially checking the man’s hairline but I may be reaching. (As if this entire post isn’t reaching.)
..and as @howardmegdal pointed out – were we even allowed to order specific seats from Shea? Did we have that level of choice?
So many questions. Very suspicious commercial. I’m starting to think there is no such couple living in Istanbul!
To answer one of your many questions, season ticket holders were allowed to order their own seats, so that level of choice was definitely there
As a european Mets Fan i have to remind you guys that it could be a 1pm start between late April and late September.
The game could be shown on ESPNAmerica as they are showing up to 8 live games per week.
This guy looks retired to me…why even have the Istanbul theme? Just say Dad retired, lives in NJ and the son bought two seats.
Don’t forget Apple TV in the list of devices that allow someone to put MLB.tv on a big screen…
This is unbelievable. LAST NIGHT, when that commercial came on, I got to thinking, “How the crap are they watching that game? Is SNY available in Europe?” No joke. Is there some telepathic connection between Mets fans?
I’ve got to get on Twitter so I can chat with you guys.
I believe that season ticket holders were allowed to request their seats when they were purchasing them.
The row cited doesn’t seem like a row that would exist in the realm of Shea’s box-structured Field Level. Things were designated by box number.
That’s bothered me for months. Then I let it go. Now you’ve got me going on about it again.
I agree. Every time I see that commercial, the fact that there was no row C in the orange field level seats bothers me more than what technology allows the couple to watch the games in Istanbul. We did get our own seats from Shea, although I never feel as happy when I sit in them now as that couple looks.
Hey you’re right about Row C
