What did everyone think of Costas/Michaels?
There’s something about those voices that makes my brain think “big game.” It just sounded post-seasony.
In their first inning on SNY I thought they tried too hard. They had prepped and were going to get everything in.
In their second inning they seemed more relaxed (especially Michaels who had that Hernandez-esque aloofness) and I was digging it.
It’s funny between this and the Vin Scully Movement that folks are digging the retro-announcers. It just shows how many vanilla guys there are, how many schtick guys there are, and how many clones there are – I don’t feel like taking shots at anyone but there’s a generic announcer style that comes from a certain university and there’s a lot of similar sounding guys doing games and sports talk shows.
On twitter (@metspolice) I threatened that when I run the MLB Network I am going to pair Sterling with Fran Healy.
I didn’t mind the change for a couple of innings, but I didn’t enjoy seeing the Mike Scioscia home run clip.
I thought it was great. I wouldn’t want to do without Gary, Keith, & Ron for an extended period of time, but it’s always nice to hear the likes of Michaels & Costas. I watch the Dodgers feed for a good portion of the Dodgers series just to listen to Scully (seriously, I could listen to him read a phone book for 2 hours). Scully and Garagiola ARE Saturday afternoon.
It is amazing how few announcers don’t annoy the tar out of me these days.
I thought it was ok … I like Bob more than Al and no big fan of Bob. I think Costas tried his best to throw some “Bob Murphy knowledge” in there when he said Pagan’s homerun was a “towering drive” and then he said it was a “majestic shot”
Just give me Gary, Keith Ron and Kevin no need for gimicks
