That white square is something called a “banner.”
In olden days Mets fans would make these and sometimes gather in a parade.

Not only is the field spacious, but so is the stands at Shea 2. That place looks empty, so they hide the 29,335 fans (according to the box score)well!
We need to go back to reporting attendance by actual people attending…what they report now is tickets sold.
