Red Sox Banner Day: a guide for the Mets

Ok Dave, let’s do this.

The Boston Red Sox and NESN are asking all fans coming to the Sunday, Sept. 4 matchup against the Texas Rangers to bring signs that demonstrate their passion and support for the hometown team. Fans are encouraged to bring poster-sized signs that express their love for the Sox, Fenway Park or their favorite player. Everyone who participates will have a chance for their sign to be broadcast on NESN, and one lucky fan will be selected to win an incredible prize package.

NESN’s Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy will serve as judges and select the winning sign.  …

Ticket holders to the game on Sunday, September 4 can participate in the contest by bringing a sign from home or by creating a sign at Fenway Park at one of the five sign-making stations around the ballpark. Fans can display their signs for NESN’s cameras during the first six innings of the game. The winner will be selected in the 7th inning, and he or she will come up to the NESN booth for an in-game appearance with Don and Jerry.

Signs must be no bigger than 2 feet by 3 feet and must be capable of being folded (or rolled) and stored at the participating fan’s seat.  Fans can visit NESN.com/signs for the complete contest rules.

Fans not attending the Sunday game can also show off their creativity and love of the Red Sox by emailing a photo of their sign to [email protected] beginning today. The signs submitted online are not eligible to win a prize, but the best signs will be displayed in a NESN.com photo gallery, powered by netomat, Inc. (netomat.com).

The Red Sox even have rules!

SIGN REQUIREMENTS: By entering into the Contest, the participant agrees and represents that all sign content is the original work of the participant(s) and does not contain or infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, logos of any third party person or entity or otherwise infringe upon any third party person’s or entity’s rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property. The sign must not, in the sole and unfettered judgment of NESN, contain any person’s name, likeness, photograph or personal information without the permission of that person, and must not contain sexually explicit, disparaging, libelous or other inappropriate content or nudity.

The bold on disparaging was mine.

Oh, call the Red Sox bloggers and let them know that the Sox are afraid!  Let’s all make fun of the Sox!

Right. The Sox aren’t worried about that stuff.  Neither should the Mets. If people show up with unwanted signs show them section 6.

What’s great about Maggie sending this my way today (THANK YOU) is that last night I was enjoying the Mets HOF & Museum and looked at this exhibit:

Look at the love.  How could you not want customer interfacing with your brand like this?  In stadium, on TV and on web.  Get the sales team cracking!

My daughter asked about it, and she thought it was cool.  When I told her about the parade she said “Awesome!!!”

2011 is over…next year seems a natural.  Let’s do this Dave.

  1. LOL The “rules” are funny because the sign in the pic essentially violates a bunch of them. But I’m guessing it’s OK to violate the Sox logo and player likeness trademarks in this one case.

Also I’d be curious to see what a sexually explicit Mets banner would look like. I mean sure in the 80’s that would be easy but this group of Mets? If someone can be that creative they should be rewarded. Maybe an adults only banner day.

  2. Predictions:
    1. This goes over well in Boston.
    2. The passion and pageantry of the event will be celebrated during a commercial on a NESN Red Sox telecast.
    3. SNY will be airing a Derek Jeter Ford commercial at the same moment.
    4. This ends up becoming another institution which the Yankees or Red Sox either claim to have invented or boast exclusive ownership.

    Get to work, Dave!

  3. Hummmm….Banner Day….What a great idea!…Who would have thought of that?

The Mets would not know what to do if they ever “Sold Out” a game, especially in Aug/Sept., when there are more “Wild Dogs” there than people!
