Why Do The Brooklyn Cyclones Wear Red?

This is a shot of Brooklyn Cyclone’s pitcher Carlos Vazquez delivering a pitch on the road against the Staten Island Yankees.  Why red?

Brooklyn’s official colors are Blue and Gold, so it’s not because of that.

The Brooklyn Dodgers don’t appear to have ever worn red except for one year in 1901.  I don’t think that’s it.

Is it the actual Astroland Cyclone?  Looks like that might be the winner.

    1. well yes, but _why_ red? They’re a Mets team owned by the Wilpons and ‘heir’ to Brooklyn baseball. Just no thought to it and red looked good as an alternate?

      1. Why not? If they went simply blue and white, stupid Mets fans would go with the moronic “Wilpons wants to recreate the Dodgers” nonsense. By using red, maybe they decided as “heirs” to Brooklyn baseball, to go back to it’s origins, the Superbas (not the Dodgers).

Also, it may very well have been done as a homage to St. Johns, since they played in their ballpark for a year as the Queens Kings.

        1. well yeah, that’s all I’m pondering. what was the ‘reason’ they chose red? I couldn’t seem to find an origin for it. Maybe it’s the Superbas, maybe it’s St. Johns, maybe it’s the Cyclone.

  1. The cyclones official colors are royal blue, gold, red and light blue (as their primary logo dictates). Maybe they used red, just to be different than the standard blue/gray?

Everything doesn’t have to be Dodgers/Mets related in their unis. I’m surprised you didn’t question the use of the BROOKLYN font on the front. “Why did they use that style? Why didn’t they use a script with a tail?”
