Let’s do this. Screw Wilpon. If the Mets don’t have banner day on the schedule next year, let’s make one up. The Mets Police should pick a weekend day game against the Pirates, Marlins, Nationals or whichever team is sucky enough and declare in a loud voice, “I’m bringing Banner Day back, whether the Mets want it or not. I love this team from 40-120 to 108-54! I love this team even when they wear black uniforms and when they wear white with pinstripes! I love this team when they trade Tom Seaver and when Doc Gooden wins Rookie of the Year! Lets’ go Mets!”This team is 50 years old, and should honor its traditions, Banner Day being among the best of the forgotten.
Why not? This should be a no brainer. The marketing department is really going to have to “Pull a “Rabbit out of its hat” because the team is not really going to be any better next year. I don’t think they will sign Jose, so I think you are looking at another 74-77 win season.
You have a perfect “50 year celebration” to play off of so they better make good use of it.
I think you are going to really see another big drop in attendance next year. I bet season tix will be way down also, as you saw tons of no shows at every game.
This team is at best another year away! People are tired of fourth and fifth place endings.
I now I am…..I used to to to about 20 Met games (Home and away) during Spring Training and I am rethinking that also.
I think you will see at least 8 new faces on the roster next year.
banner day is cool. how about after the game in the parking lot or down town flushing.
first and formost i want a 50th anniversary day. i saw the yankees old timers day, it was beautiful. it would be awesome to see mets players from the original team and as many former mets u can get. do the yankees have to out do us all the time ? also, where are the statues out side the ball park. every time i watch a opening telecast every where some teams have statues all over the place. i swore i saw a statue of a peanut vendor some where 🙂
