Just when you thought our posts could not get any stranger we bring in Richard Nixon.
For some reason during the 86 NLCS the NY Post felt they needed to reach out to former President Nixon and get his take on the Mets-Astros series. (No word on who Gerald Ford predicted)
Not that strange, actually. Nixon, huge baseball fan and New York resident at the time, was at Shea, and the Post needed a rainy day story.
I mean, yeah, strange…but not really. He loved talking sports. Made him feel like one of the boys, something Dick Nixon couldn’t do otherwise. Besides, he’d rather imply Mike Scott was a crook than having to revisit his own history of shall we say scuffing the ball.
Nixon’s assertions makes me nervous. I bet he was pretty sure he’d win that second term too right?
He did win the second term…didn’t finish it though…Ford came in as the closer.
