Pretty sweet. From that auction Paul Lukas told me about. Note how the original dark blue looks nice.
Hobie Landrith played at catcher in the New York Mets very first regular season game on April 11, 1962 against the St. Louis CardinalsInside the rear collar is the “Felco” manufacturer’s tag. Attached are two flag tags, “100% Wool” and size “44”. On the left breast is the team disc embroidered patch. The bottom of the stitching has come undone. On the left sleeve is player number “5” done in orange felt. The zipper is in full working order. The jacket shows wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
I am a bit skeptical about this jacket. With all the Mets pictures I have seen in yearbooks, photographic histories, etc, I have never seen a Met player wearing this jacket. I am at a total loss on how to explain this jacket. I had an issue with another jacket in this auction, purported to be a #45 Bob Gibson 1981 coach’s jacket with his name embroidered on the back…but the jacket was a post 1984 style and was actually worn by Paul Gibson, also #45. I notified Grey Flannel and they removed it from the auction.
Has anybody ever seen this jacket?
can’t say that i ever had.
but it looks cool. maybe a prototype jacket. landrith might have worn it to promote the team before they played a game..
No idea about its origins, but if the Mets licensed clothing manufacturers are looking for ideas, they could certainly do worse. 🙂
Or in the spirit of the 50th anniversary, why not recreate perfection?

It’s a classic look, but it’s not different enough from the 1986 jacket that Mitchell & Ness already offers to interest me.
And if you can afford it, they’ve also got a 1969 jacket.
