Interesting.
I truly hope Wayne finds happiness and a 30 year gig as the voice of the somebody else’s.
To my ears he never sounded quite right on the Mets broadcasts, and the Howie/Eddie Coleman booth was much more comfortable.
It will be interesting to see who they stick in there. I’m holding out hope that Howie decides to go all Vin Scully and just do the game by himself, but that will never happen.
It’s doubtful Wayne Hagin will be back for a fifth year as Howie Rose’s partner in the Mets radio booth. Hagin’s contract has expired and WFAN has been interviewing possible replacements. Hagin previously called Rockies, Cardinals, Giants and A’s games.
I don’t mind him too much, but what bugs me is the other announcers seem to ignore any conversation he tries to start and it is awkWARD.
a bay area native, hagin grew up listening to the best i heard since leaving new york, lon simmons, hank greenwald (giants) bill king (A’s ). never heard him with the mets. while with the giants he had some what of a attitude as if to say” im from here and im going to show you how much i know about the giants” which rubbed a lot of fans, the giants and KNBR radio higher ups the wrong way. At the press confrence the giants had when he was hired,he said ” i know everything there is to know about the giants and expect to be here for a long time”
he and his on air ego did not last here too long. jon miller and a his broadcst partner dave flemming are excellent on radio.on t.v is dwayne kuiper and mike krukow (when the giants play the mets,he always have funny shea stadium stories to tell).pleeeze hagin don’t apply for a giants job here. !!! WFAN re-sign him …pleeeeze. 🙂
I probably won’t miss Wayne Hagin… hopefully WFAN finds someone better to pair with Howie Rose for next year.
Eddie Coleman may the the right fit, but what the front office is probably looking for is a blinders-on shill who cannot bring himself to say the name “Madoff”
