Do we need every last detail from Mets Spring Training the second it happens?

This video (if it renders, CBS videos tend to not work right with my software) has sent me over the edge. I’m really getting bored by the constant blog/twitter news-cycle.

My tracker caught “EXCLUSIVE: Mets Execs Take Chopper…” blah blah. Exclusive? What? Oh, I see they have exclusive video. Let’s watch the video and then talk. If it renders. (Earlier MLBAM sent out a Mets come on for tickets and I tried to embed it with their embed code but it turns out the embed is blocked and instead instructs you to go to MLB.com….you know what, screw off…I would have posted your ticket sale now I’m not.)

Hopefully there is a video here. If not click here.

There.

Did we need that?

Of course I’m an idiot for sharing it with you and I’m part of the problem. But do we really need 9 different beat reporters tweeting ..

“David Wright has sneezed.”

“Wright sneezing in dugout.”

“Mets star 3B Wright has sneezed.”

“David Wright in what could be his last season as a Met even though the team has an option for 2013 has sneezed.”

“ESPN confirms that David Wright has sneezed”

“In a tweet Sandy Alderson says Wright has snzeezed.” (why can’t you just RT @metsgm?)

  1. You’ve got what, a half dozen newspapers that sent reporters to spring training, plus the SNY guys and whatever local tv guys went. They all have editors that are demanding constant coverage – none of them want to be forced to explain why they were the only one who didn’t report that David Wright sneezed.

Of course it gets a bit redundant, but no one says that we have to follow them all.

  2. The definition of news is less and less clear and meaningful everyday. It’s very much a problem. The supply and demand on information is off, that information is less valuable everyday. Also, there is a fine line between want and need.

  3. If David Wright sneezes again, he is going to be traded for some Nyquill and a box of Kleenex to be openrd later!

  4. I think the constant updates from Spring Training are to make us fans want to be there in person (David Wright sneezing aside).  I’m leaving a little more than 3 weeks, and seeing pictures and videos from Port St. Lucie is making me crazy.
