Wilpon Free TV: Cuckoos Nest

For those of you still boycotting the Wilpons, here is tonight’s TV schedule.

Tonight once again it is AMC that comes through for those who refuse to enjoy this wonderful season.  One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest will take you all the way from 8pm until 11pm.  No Wilpons in that movie!

Those of you choosing to enjoy baseball can watch the Mets on Wilpon Owned SNY at 7.

  1. I have to say it really doesn’t seem like you Shannon to antagonize patrons of your site- members of the Mets Police community and footsoldiers in the Blue Cap Army.

I’ve thought about writing with each installment of this series but assumed it would be a temporary thing. You know how much admiration I have for you and what you’ve accomplished through this site, so this critique comes with the utmost respect.

I personally have decided to boycott the Wilpons as best I can without missing out on the team I love. This has not meant I’ve stopped watching them on TV (but if there was an alternative that still allowed me to see the games on a non-Wilpon owned entity I would.) It has, however, meant that I have not purchased my average of 60 tickets, 2 jerseys, a few hats & tees, a few hundred hotdogs, shack burgers, italian sausages, pepsi’s etc.

This stand does not make me bad or worthy of ridicule. I have my reasons. I reached my personal breaking point with the owners. I can support bad teams- have for many (most?) of my years as a Mets fan. But I can not support bad men (which I believe the Wilpon/Katz crew to be based on my knowledge of Wall St. where I pursued my first career and my personal gauge of character. In other words- my gut.) I do not ask any one else to believe that much. I do not ask anyone who does believe it to join the boycott. Unto each his own. But I do ask that others respect what I am doing and trust that it was in no way an easy place to land.

I have to be true to myself and what I believe is right. I hope that does not mean, I’ll be sent packing by the Blue Cap Army.

    1. Hi Metsburg and thanks for writing.

I’m having some fun at the expense of some of my twitter friends who were quite outspoken all winter long. I predicted folks would cave once actual baseball started and doubly so if the team got off to a good start.

It doesn’t matter to me if people support the Wilpons or not, but its my personal opinion that if you choose not to support their business you need to think that stance all the way through. They own the TV network. They get a cut of the centralized fund..so if you adopt the Mariners and buy Mariners caps they are going to get a cut.

But at the end of the day this is some good old fashioned chop-busting and we must all remember is what we’re really discussing on this site is the antics of a bunch of grown men wearing pajamas and hitting a ball with a stick.

Im glad you wrote and will likely spin this exchange out as a complete post when I am near a computer.

  2. Metsburg,

I also go by gut and am very familiar with the financial and real estate industry…I also go by what I hear from people who know people. I feel Fred is not a bad guy, but has made some really bad decisions…of course trusting Madoff was an epic fail…he also places a lot of trust in Katz and Jeff…that’s his family. Sometimes those should not mix. The bottom line is, since Doubleday sold to Fred, the Mets have one playoff appearance and the Yankees have 8 and one world’s title.  I actually like the management now…Sandy and Collins…but the team is awash in debt and this is going to be a hard road. I have little faith in Jeff Wilpon based on everything I know. I would love to see new ownership at this point. Shannon is always open to all opinions…but I agree with you that this theme is simultaneously promoting the Wilpons and needling people who would love to see them sell, even if they are not in a full boycott.
