An actual post about the actual baseball: why I’m mad and yet calm

What an awful week.  It all started with the wearing of the you know what and except for R.A. Dickey the entire week was a disaster.

Jason Bay & Ike Davis:  I’m done man.  You can’t let productive parts sit on the bench while these two play.  I can’t believe I’m typing this but I’d rather see Hairston out there.  I lose my mind when Nieuwenhuis (got it right but I did check after and I’m still not positive) doesn’t play.  I know Ike got a hit late today but you can’t eat .160 at first base for an entire summer.  We all like Ike but this ain’t working and there’s still a shot of a miracle season.

Bullpen: damned if I know who to roll out there.  The starters are usually serviceable but then God help us.  Try to go 8 and hope Frank Frank has his stuff.

Colactus: I think he pushes all the right buttons.  The one labeled bullpen doesn’t work.  See above.

Any time Santana loses it’s a long 5 days.  Always a long week when the ace loses one.  Friday sucked.

So I’m sort of freaked out and I’m sort of calm.  It was awful but guess what, they are still above .500 and still in the thick of things.  This team is designed for doubles not 330 foot home runs, and there’s plenty of season to beat up on lesser teams and play half the post-season in Citi Field.

In the meantime, sorry Ike & Jason.  I need to see someone else out there.  Tell Duda to get out his first baseman’s glove.  we can worry about his progress in RF in hopefully spring and if not then in September.

Where’s everyone else’s head at?

  1. Did you write this before or after we blew the last yankee game and got swept? Because awful was putting it nicely.

  2. Im concerned very concerned there were a few bad losses this week. Last Sunday we were tied for first then we go 1-6. 2 games we definitely should have won. GGames like that first game in Washington are crucial hope that game doesnt turn into a turning point for the worst this season.

  3. I’m so sick of the Mets this season but only recently have I become really annoyed with them being at Fridays game made me so annoyed to be a die hard Mets fan. In my opinion I think Niese should have pitched the Thursday against the Nats, Dickey should have pitched the first game of the subway series, than Gee for the second, and Santana for the last game. Watching Santana pitch made me cringe Friday, he should have been taken out of the game the second it was 6-0 in the third. Instead Collins who I’m beginning to hate as a manager left him in. It looked like Santana had no control and was injured, but why not leave him in and injure himself more. I’d like to see Davis sent down to AAA for a bit he needs to work on his swing, he is chasing too many pitches, and Bay well I’d like to not see him in a Mets uniform anymore and trade him for something bullpen related even though that may not be possible.

Well that’s my opinion. I would also like to play any area of the field for the Mets I’ve played high school ball and think I could do better, and I will play for free. 😀

  4. Still a lot of games to be played but we all knew that this stretch of games would be a gauge on this team.  For better or worse the Yankees are the measuring stick for many fans, and losing to them really gets under Mets’ fans skins. This was a winnable game. But on a positive note they’ve played good enough to be over .500 so panic mode has set in, and it shouldn’t. Though I would add taking 2 out of 3 in TB will go a long way in Mets fan’s minds, losing or being swept by TB would really hurt the collective psyche of the fan base. The Bombers are coming to Flushing, so returning the favor would help put this weekend in perspective. There’s still a lot of baseball to play.

  5. I’m on board.  I really don’t like moving Duda to 1st, but with so many infield injuries, there’s nobody else to put there if you send Ike down (which absolutely needs to happen).

Sitting Kirk or Hairston in favor of Bay is nonsense.  I don’t dislike Bay, but it’s time to accept he’s not an asset.

  6. Mets never seem to beat the yankees regardless of what team is in the field..this goes back to the old mayors trophy games..There seem’s to be such hatred from yankee fans toward the mets..i don’t understand why? the mets are no threat to win the cities hearts..yankees are way more popular..just wish they could sweep the yankees at yankee stadium one time before i croak….

  7. Agree on all points but one – Santana is not the ace of this team, Dickey is.

And i’d add – has Sandy Alderson actually moved yet?

  8. Brutal loss; Brutal series

This is going to happen when we face the big boys.  All these games are going to pay off when we are ready to contend a few years down the road.

  9. This is a young team, with above average starting pitching, that loves playing for their manager…they are going to over achieve. But the bullpen is very weak and is going to prevent a playoff appearance at this rate. The absolute worst thing to happen this year is the utter regression of Ike Davis. I have never seen a major leaguer start his swing so early in the pitcher’s windup and he does it on every pitch. Any veteran pitcher will tie him in knots. It is astounding that they have not been able to address this after one third of the season so far. Dave from Flushing reads this right…do something.
