I know this is dead horse stuff but this is shockingly bad with the three patches.

The whole black uniform has been treated as such an afterthought this season, it’s laughable. No 50th anniv. patch on the hat. TWO sleeve patches (which serve the same purpose, no less!) on the jersey. The KID sleeve patch moved to the chest. It’s terrible. I’m glad they aren’t wearing that uniform more than a couple times a year anymore, but if it’s going to be in their rotation *at all*, they should do it right, no??
They are left over jerseys from last year that they didn’t feel like ordering more for so they added the 50th anniversary patch to the other sleeve and then kid patch to the chest. They should have just skipped the whole thing since they have worn it twice until July 21st. I honestly thought the all black hat would have been gone before the black one with the blue bill. I think Pin stripes should be home every game, ditch the snow whites and get a blue alternate jersey going, the BP blue is perfect just wear it in games!
Couldn’t do the blue alt this year yet due to MLB timeframes on when they are changing jerseys. The black jerseys this year seem to be only used when honoring players from the 90’s. Franco, Fonzie, and I am sure Piazza.
I’m not a fan of adding the blue alt. What’s wrong with what they have now (including dropping the black)? *shrug* I know, I know, selling more jerseys and all that…but I am a purist. And they’ve looked so freaking good this year. The blue looks good too but as a BP jersey. I hate the “softball” tops…
its all about the merch. I agree, keep em limited. I still stand by my old “Anything Goes Sundays” idea
That’s fair enough. I could live with that.
It’s funny – black is so predominant throughout that uniform that the 50th anniversary patch actually looks out of place precisely because it has no black in it.
I think the Mets or MLB, whoever decides such things, have a whole bunch of black jerseys in stock that they wouldn’t be able to market as “authentic” on field stuff if the Mets stop wearing them. So they wear them a handful of times hoping to sell a few more of them then if they went cold turkey. Gary Cohen said yesterday that they were worn to honor Fonzie on his bobblehead day…he then made a remark how Howie hates them so much, yet he and Lewin were wearing black shirts yesterday, possibly to make a statement. He said the black was being phased out. The bottom line is for 15 years now, the Mets have foregone tradition and forced this non-team color on their fans just to make some money. While they finally decided to correct this malfeasance, it will be years before you can go to a game and not see many fans wearing black. Highlights and photos of this era will also be there to remind you.
