Even so, Wright should have known better. After all, while downplaying the idea that he felt any real pain, he admitted that it was enough to wake him up at night for a period of a week or so.

Like I said before its all fun and games until somebody gets hurt?
How much are you going to like the WBC when the Mets are 3-27 in April and the 2,000 fans that show up for the games can’t even see Wright play.
Same on the other side of town with what’s his name the first basemen.
Who like the WBC now?
Now Justin Turner is hurt! As Abbott & Costello say, ” I don’t know on third”
David did more to positively promote the Mets in the time he was at the WBC then the team could have done with a thousand blood drives, Star Wars Nights (of which I am a BIG FAN), a million Turn-Back-The-Clock nights (ugh) or whatever Band Du Jour is playing at Citi. He could have just as easily gotten hurt in a meaningless Spring Training game vs. the Astros so the idea that he “let the team down by playing in the WBC” is hogwash. This is not the kind of a guy that you can wrap in a bubble, only to take him out for his 4 AB’s a night. The WBC is here to stay and a good promotion for the MLB (I would rather have it in November / December, but that’s just me). Wright should not be criticized for the decision to play in it, but applauded for being the best representative the Mets could hope for. He is Mr. Met, Captain America.
