Mets Planholders Can Buy $48 “Cheap Seats”

I just got this email.

email

I get to buy additional tickets for Opening Day? I better jump on them before they sell out. They have to be close to selling out if I am getting emails like this, right?

Let’s see what the cheapest seats are…

$48 bucks for Opening Day tickets if you already have a plan. That is a big savings from that $50 dollar price point for the general public. $66 bucks for a plan holder to buy in Prom Infield and Box vs$84 for non plan holders in same area.Prom Gold is $92 for Plan Holders vs. $104 Prom Gold as a non plan holder.

I wonder what the actual number of fans that show up is going to be versus the number they say paid attendance is the day of the game. It’s going to be GANGBUSTERS I bet.

  1. Now with Opening Day one week away, lets see what the Mets have
to offer if you want to bring a group of 12 to the game & sit together.
Think I’m crazy for asking….Think again!!!!
This is what is available on mets.com….

    Section…..Row……Seats………..Total Cost
    520…………5……….7-18………………$849
    513…………8……….4-15……………$1,119

That’s 18 different sections where 12 seats are available
together, 1 WEEK BEFORE OPENING DAY!!!!!

I wonder what they have for April 3rd??????

    1. Wow! I estimated that before they dropped prices they were probably about 1/3 sold. If they can sell another 1/3 by Monday, I’d be shocked. Dropping the price to $50 or $48 is still higher than just about every other MLB team and is ridiculous.

(In full disclosure, I did cave and get a plan holder to buy my LF Reserve tix. The drop from $130 to $72 was significant enough to make me keep my Opening Day streak alive.)

  2. Let me try to explain to the Mets what they have done: by overpricing their tix, they became a further laughingstock in the league. Then, they caved and brought the tix down “slightly” to the general public and will probably make the “plan holder price” the general price on Weds. So, now what was the advantage of buying a plan? Furthermore, if they drop the tix beyond the plan-holder price or offer BOGO at plan-holder price (essentially dropping it to 50% off), then all the LOYAL fans who bought early just got a nice kick in the nuts for being a loyal fan. How is that fair to them? What was the incentive, the ASG? So, lets look long term… in 2014, there is no ASG, there probably is no guarantee of playoffs coming off a 90-loss season…why would ANYONE buy a plan next year when they can wait until gameday and get a better price because the Mets will have no choice but to reduce prices? Once again, the Mets shot themselves in the foot. SHOCKER!

My solution is sell tix cheap… get people in the park. In theory half a park at 2*$XX.00 should equal a full stadium at $XX.00, except the Wilpons haven’t figured out that empty chairs don’t pay for parking, buy hot dogs, beer and foam fingers. Not to mention, empty chairs aren’t out buying jerseys, caps and building a fandom for the future. The near-sightedness of the organization continues to plague them and will until the FO is infused with a new mentality.

  3. Since Citi Field opened….the key is to WAIT!!!!
Never buy in advance. The Mets ALWAYS lower their prices and have deals. Even if it’s not lower than season or plan holders have paid. NEVER sign up for a plan just to get a certain game or perk.
Odds are you won’t be going much to the other games and thus raising the price for the one you want.

I was a Saturday Plan Holder for 25 years. I will NEVER forget how they screwed the plan holders when $iti Field opened! First they tried “SEANSON TICKETS” ONLY!!! Then when that didn’t work they offered plans with crappy seating locations. I went from LOGE, Section 10 to PROMANADE 430. Never bought anything from the Mets after 2009. In the last 3 years, except for Santana’s FAKE No-Hitter, tell me what I missed….
