Ike Davis (along with Carson and Baxter), after months of ineptitude at the plate, was finally booted off the big league roster. This was done in an effort to:
-try to get Ike’s swing straight in AAA
-send a message to the rest of the club about accountability
-show the fanbase they aren’t giving up
Of course I think Ike should have been sent down weeks ago, but I am actually disappointed the Mets made this move. Ike Davis was the one guy in baseball about whom I could say, without exaggeration, that he didn’t look any better at the plate than I would. Seriously, I am no athlete, and the way Ike swung meekly at curveballs and seemed to dive away from the plate, it more reminded of myself than any player I’ve ever seen. It was downright inspiring.
So, so long Ike Davis. I hope those wizards in Vegas can get you figured out. But, if and when you come back to the Mets, don’t forget about what made you so damn lovable, OK?
