Time to play Spot The Left Fielder. In this picture is the Left Fielder as seen from section 535. Can you spot him?
No? How about here?
How about the Center Fielder? Can you see him?
I hadn’t sat out in that area in quite a while and I forgot just how much it sucks. I was aware of the LFer issue but man it sucks. The Home Run Derby is gonna suck out there. Did the ball go out? I guess we will never know.
This is a joke Jeff. You either screwed the pooch royally or just didn’t care.
Also the out of town media is annoying me saying how awesome Citi Field is. It’s not awesome. It’s pretty good. It has flaws (see above.) But in the air conditioned auxiliary press box with the free food they will never know. Take a walk upstairs fellas.
This really is an issue bigger than Jeff. It’s HOK. A lot of the newer stadiums have seats like this. That being said, where the Mets go wrong is, most of those teams have the decency to label these tickets “Obstructed View” or “ObsVu”. People will still buy the tickets, but at least they can buy them knowing what they are getting. (selling them a few bucks cheaper doesnt hurt either). I dont think it’s neccesary (or even possible) for every seat to be able to see everything (i know i sure couldnt at Shea), but at least don’t hide the obvious…the views are obstructed
some of us locals think Citi Field is awesome. Not Amazingly Awesome, but certainly happy with it. You’ll find those nitpicking sections and areas and flaws in most every stadium.
So then it’s okay that they designed thousands of seats with obstructed views? Those seats are terrible and more than a minor inconvenience if you have tickets there. Let’s see how the locals feel when the team eventually makes the playoffs and the good seats are taken up by the corporations and you are forced to sit in those seats if you want to be in the ballpark.
This doesn’t even mention the section directly below and the back half of Left Field landing.
Shannon, thank you for saying this. This needs to be said time and time again. I’ve always maintained this from the moment Citi Field was opened – for all of Shea’s flaws, I could see all 9 players on the field from any seat in the house. I would think that’s a prerequisite when building a ballpark.
I remember totally missing Daryl’s Game 5 NLCS HR in 1986 because I couldn’t see RF or the ball from the Upper Deck. I only knew it was gone because the apple went up…
I loved Shea, sniff sniff. But you could not see a fly ball in some seats. There were small tv’s in lodge I believe.
