If Twitter is gonna run someone out of town it should be Ike Davis (#imwith28)

ike davis cowboySorry Ike, but Twitter came for Murph today so I am going on offense.

Murph is hitting .274 9 and 53 (traditional stats only here on MetsPolice.com, please visit Amazin’ Avenue if you want to add numbers together or create other things.)  26 doubles. Murphy makes $2.93M and is arbitration eligible.

Ike is .207 6 and 25.  He is supposedly some sort of power hitter.  If Jason Bay were .207 6 and 25 you would lose your goshdarn mind.

An abysmal first half in 2012 and although the power showed up once the Mets were dead (they were in contention until the manager let someone throw 134 pitches) and another abysmal first half this year.  Already makes $3.13M and is also arbitration eligible.

Today Twitter decided that Wilmer Flores needs to play and The People decided he should play second.  Of course the scouts are all saying that he is worse than Murphy at second and nobody on twitter has actually seen Flores play second, but hey why not run Murph out of town?  They ran him out of town for Ike, they ran him out of town for Valdespin, so now let’s run him out of town for a guy who we haven’t even seen at second.

Aside from the manager letting Flores play hurt last night (I will get into that in the next post), why not play Flores at first?  He has no future in New York at third.  They have a serviceable solution at second (Murph is 6th in hits in the NL and leads the Mets in runs, so to me he’s the 22nd biggest problem on the roster after Wright, Harvey and Wheeler).  Why the hell would the Mets mess around at second when they need a SS, a 1B and at least an outfielder and maybe two and hell maybe three?

You want Flores to play?  Fine.  Second base is not a problem.  First base is.  Sorry Ike, but it’s two years of this while the guy at second has 297 hits in that span.

  1. Couldn’t agree more. Flores to first. He’s a big enough kid who could be taught. Run Ike out.
