Heated debate between city officials and Councilwoman on Willets Point  – NY Daily News

Some of you have not been paying attention to the development plans near Citi Field.  As I understand it, the existing parking lot becomes a mall and the lands over on 126th become a new parking lot.  The development would reportedly be spearheaded by the Related Company and Sterling Enterprises if I am reading correctly.

Ferreras and fellow Councilmember Leroy Comrie also peppered officials on the construction of the crucial Van Wyck Expressway ramps, which isn’t slated to start until 2024.The developer isn’t obligated to build the affordable housing if the ramps don’t get built.

I’d really like to know more about how this works.  Can my real estate company build on the lands or has this already been preordained o the Related Co and Sterling?  If someone decides not to build highway ramps I don’t have to build that pesky affordable housing?  Won’t a mall bring in more traffic than some affordable housing?

I am not smart enough to know the answers to these questions.  The other sites will ignore this and write about the bullpen or something.
