On the broadcast tonight Howie Rose said he thinks the Mets will wear black uniforms on Sunday (Mike Piazza day). He was speculating and didn’t seem to know it for a fact.
The last time the Mets wore black was June 3, 2012. The Mets were in first place that morning believe it or not.
The last time the Mets wore black was July 21, 2012 on Alfonzo Bobblehead night. Thanks to Greg Prince for remembering it. I obviously had Rekall remove that memory.
Under the negotiations that led to the Treaty Of Flushing I agreed not to complain about uniforms.
Unicorn alert: Media Goon might want to bid on a game used black Dice-K jersey or the clever Black black jersey.
I love the pic of Mike
Agreed; fantastic picture of Mike. And count me as one who just can’t hate the black unis. Too many good memories from the late 90s and 2000s. Heck, we were in first place the last time we wore them (why’d we wear them that day anyway? Fonzie bobblehead day?), so maybe they’ve got some good mojo.
@ Mike, they wore them that day for John Franco bobblehead. Fonzie bobblehead was later in the season…I think they actually wore them for Fonzie bobblehead day as well, though. Shannon, confirm?
Yes… They were in first place when they wore the black uniforms for the first time since the Treaty was signed, and look what happened next.
At least this time they waited until the last game of another lost season, so maybe the baseball gods would not notice or care.
I understand there was some good memories of the black uniforms in 1999 and 2000 — but there were FAR MORE WORSE memories with them, as well, including 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. But it’s once a year — fine.
