I have never played in the major leagues. How does this work? Does the team just say “hey hope your surgery goes well, call us when you’re ready to come back.”

See,this is how it works, first you go to your primary care physician who authorizes the referral. Then you see the specialist who send the information to your insurance company for approval. Once the approval is given a date is arranged for the procedure. All this takes time.
