Here’s what was on Mets Facebook yesterday

The Mets, along with most if not all MLB teams, posted about yesterday’s Spirit Day, which as I understand it was to discourage bullying LGBT youth..

A few comments:

– since my comments about the Washington NFL team got some people’s blood boiling I can’t imagine what this post will do.

– regardless of how you feel about the Mets Facebook post you should know that some posts on Mets social media come from the MLB Central office. So whether you are proud or angry about this one, it probably came from MLBAM.

– the comments below are just some of the comments, and this type of comment appeared on at least several team’s boards. Deadspin highlighted the Braves page.

– I am not sharing this to spread hate speech. Quite the opposite. I hope that Mets fans can encourage other Mets fans to be better people. Whatever your belief, we should respect each other.

  1. Wow i can’t believe some of those comments! If you think the Mets and MLB standing up against bullying those with alternative lifestyles is the worst thing they’ve done or something “they shouldn’t be posting about and instead worry about putting a quality team on the field” then that doesn’t speak volumes about them it speaks volumes about you! Look i don’t agree with homosexuality from a physical standpoint because i am straight, but regardless everyone should feel free to live their life any way they want as long as it’s not immoral, illegal or hurtfull to others and if someone is going out if their way to hurt those people who are different it’s just plain wrong! I’ve always believed that I don’t care if you’re gay or what religion you are, just don’t try to exploit or take away others in society for which you don’t deserve or try to force your beliefs on me! The Mets and MLB taking this stand does not bother me one bit! They’re not supporting a group that breaks any laws or are a detriment to society in any way! Good for them!

  2. Best thing the Mets did all year! It’s nice to see baseball – which can be stuck in the past – taking a stand on this.

  3. As you said, this likely came from the league office, so the Mets probably don’t deserve too much of your approval or wrath, either way.

I’m not sure how anyone could find, “don’t bully the gay kids”, to be a controversial stance.

I’m also not sure how bullying became an exclusively LGBT issue, but that’s probably not too important, as less bullying helps everyone.

  4. There is a Spirit Day because many who are LGBT are bullied and the Mets as well as many others are trying to raise awareness. To those who commented by spreading hate, shame on you. Imagine those young people who read that and the sadness they feel. I am ashamed to share the title “Mets fan” with you.
