Here’s what we’re doing. We are crowdsourcing 41 ideas for the Mets. The ideas can be big or small. Today’s idea is from @mets_bro
The Islanders do a great job every year – not necessarily on the ice, but with promoting fan and player interaction. They get the entire team and coaching staff together at one location for a day of Meet & Greets and autographs for fans. Last year, the event was at AdventureLand on Long Island. The team sold tickets (I think they were $25 last year – with a discount for STH) for admission into the park which included getting to meet the players, get autographs, pose for pictures AND unlimited rides! The proceeds of the event always go to the “Islanders Children’s Fund”.
In year’s past, the Islanders hosted this event at The Coliseum. There would be tables set up around the concourse with two or three players at each table. You literally walk around the entire concourse just going table to table and getting meeting players and getting autographs. After the “Meet & Greet” part of the event, fans were invited to go into the lockerrooms, lace up their skates and take a few laps around the ice – this was one of the coolest things when I was a kid!
It’s not often teams should try to emulate the Islanders, but in this case I think the Mets should. If they are reluctant to have a full blown Fan Fest, this is a great secondary option. Invite the fans to Citi Field (or charge admission), set up the players at various locations around the Field Level concourse, then allow the fans to walk around to meets the players, get some autogrpahs, buy food and drinks, etc. Then afterwards, allow the fans to run the bases or take a lap around the warning track.

Here’s what I need you to do: email me ([email protected]) your ideas. Make my life easy and actually write a few paragraphs about your idea and put your name/twitter handle to it so I can just cut and paste it. I’ll post one idea a day.
Here’s what I need you not to do: waste time with “Sell the Team” or ridiculous trades or general negativity.
The goal here is to crowdsource some cool ideas, publicly post them, and then the Mets can use them or not.
Send your ideas to [email protected] – put something like CROWDSOURCING in the title so I can pick them out easily (lest you get buried in a slew of You Own This Jersey emails.) and again write a little but about your idea. “They should have Kiner’s Korner” isn’t enough. What is Kiner’s Korner? How would it work? What is your vision for it?
