Maybe in a month, we’ll feel differently, but I’d rather see if Panik can be a poor man’s Murphy for free, rather than trade the farm to get the rich man’s Panik. I’ll hum a different tune when it comes to a monster hitter like Chase Utley, but Murphy seems like a player whose cost-to-value ratio is way off, right now. The Blue Jays probably have more use for him.

metspolice This Panik kid hit .257 in AA last year and has an 829 OPS in the PCL, or same as Omar Quintanilla
Do you mean Chase Utley of five years ago or the Chase Utley that had a good first month and a half of the season and then has stopped hitting? Chase Utley is a far less valuable player than Murphy at this point in their careers. Panik may play a little above his minor league numbers but for a team that is in a win now mode who may also lose their over rated third baseman at the end of the year, Murphy would be a perfect fit but Giants have nothing left in their farm system to make a trade.
Murph is better for an AL team that needs a DH who they can plug in at 2B or 1B. He is a bad fundamental player both in the field and on the basepaths… but he is a bat.
