As we reach idea #41 we go out with a huge idea. I think it would look really messy, and I think cost-wise we may have to wait for American Express Daniel Murphy Stadium in 2050 for this to happen, but hey why not.
Tomorrow I will have some variant ideas from some previously discussed topics…and I think I will bring this series back in the future. For now, 41 seems a nice Mets-ian number at which to take a pause.
And with that, Kevin Canessa Jr. has decided to go big…
This might be a massive undertaking — and I won’t be the first to suggest this (it was done so by the Fansided website ‘Rising Apple’) — but I would love to see the seat colours changed.
Because of the shape of the stadium and number of tiers, bringing back the orange, blue, green and red scheme might be too much. So in that case, scrap the green completely — and make the lower half orange and upper portions blue. Imagine being early to the stadium and walking in to see our true colours, you know, the ones stupid Charlie Samuels made us forget from 1998 to 2011?
Now. this might also require making other changes to the stadium to make the orange and blue fit properly, but just thinking of this change makes me feel better about Citi Field.
I’ve been wondering — will there every be a day where playing at Citi Field doesn’t feel like playing in a road ballpark? There has been but one great memory at Citi Field worth remembering — Johan Santana’s no-hitter — but even still, it doesn’t feel like home for this Mets fan. Heck, I feel more at home at Citizens Bank Park than I do at Citi Field. At least it has blue other than along the outfield walls!
And while it might simply seem trivial to some, bringing back some of the old Shea seat colours would work wonders, as far as I am concerned, toward really making the place feel like ours, not the Dodgers’.
Sell the original green seats — and then use that money for the Mets foundation. Or maybe for a shortstop. Or maybe for a closer. Just do something, please.
Am I asking for too much here, fellow Mets fans? Would Citi Field look out of place were the seats orange and blue and not green?
