This has been bothering me more and more as the season has gone on. The Mets Promotional Days/Nights. The Mets for a better term seem to half ass their promotions. When Star Wars Nights started a few years ago, they had the characters interacting with the crowd and just did “more”. There were sketches and some wrap arounds that were on the big screen that made those nights fun. Then the next year the Mets were on a losing streak and they killed 90% of the fun stuff for fear of backlash from the fans for the Star Wars people having fun at the game during the losing streak. That hurt my head so bad…

Above was some of the fun from 2012. The 501st Legion was even up by the Pepsi porch posing for pictures. That seemed to make the fans happy. Now they have the costume contest hidden away in the bullpen plaza. Why isn’t this done maybe near the Old Home Run Apple outside or even in the Jackie Robinson Rotunda? Also during Star Wars night they have Japanese Heritage night. Not only do those two things not go together but certain Japanese groups were even up in arms when the Star Wars Prequels came out due to the closeness of the way the Nimoidians were portrayed to have spoken(1940’s War Stereotypes).

The Braves actually put a graphic together for it… Maybe the Braves are doing this better because The Walking Dead is shot in Georgia and the show is set in Georgia.
Even the Dbacks have a cool graphic
That just seemed more fun to me….

I am glad it was used to raise money for The LI Ronald McDonald house but I cannot even remember if they actually had anyone show up in costume. Well I can’t really say that but I am sure it wasn’t the turn out the Mets were hoping for.
If the Mets want these things to succeed they need to do a better job promoting and running them. Yeah we know they use these events to help garner more ticket sales but besides giving away Star Wars Bobble heads, I wonder how many tickets have actually been sold based on these events.
Now my second part to this post is about the Mets jamming all these different promos into each game. Like one night you’ll have Irish heritage, with FDNY Bobble head, college prep night all in one night.
Mets I get it. You need to sell tickets and use these promos to help. That’s fine you can do that but how about trying to group some of them together that make sense? It just drives me crazy that there can be so many different promotions going on in one game..
My sis and I bought tix for a “girls night out” promo that was supposed to be tomorrow. Included appetizers, drinks, & raffles. Monday they cancelled it due to low interest. Maybe if they had promoted it a little more it would have worked out.
I didn’t even hear about that- did try refund your money?
Yes they refunded it all….
