During the season we did a series of crowdsourcing Amazin’ Ideas for the Mets. It got such a big reaction that we went way over, and I decided to save a few ideas for the long off-season. And now here we are.
Let’s lead off the second series with this one from Kevin.
Some thought on banners: limit the banners that adorn the actual Citi Field building to Mets Hall of Famers, and when it comes time to put up new player banners elsewhere around the entrance and parking lots, have an online poll asking fans who they want to see get a banner. This would likely prevent current mistakes, like Bret Saberhagen getting a banner (at this rate it’s only a matter of time before Glavine gets one).
Alright, I know I’m in the minority here, but Glavine may be the most underrated hated Met ever (not most underrated ever, but among hated Mets — the Ollie Perezes of the world — he may be the one who least deserves the venom he gets). His numbers here were above average, and helped to make us respectable again in 05. He was a key part of the 06 team. His incredibly poor outing on the last day of 2007 should not completely mar a fine five-year tour in the Orange and Blue. He wasn’t as good as he was when he was a Brave, but his age worked against him. Most pitchers not named Clemens dip as they close in on 40.
