The question was “Can Citi Field hold a big crowd?” The answer….

…is not really.

It’s not a complaint, because a full ballpark is fun, I guess.

However it was really really hard to move around today.

It was really really really really hard to go to the bathroom.  Here’s a shot of a line at 1:05

Even the Cubs make fin of that line.  At least they sort of have an excuse.

Also, if you spend money on standing room please have your head examined.

citi field opening day 2015

The net effect of having all the standees, plus the normal traffic of people who choose not to sit in the awful disaster that is Upper Left, is that the place felt packed.  Like “hey Fire Marshall, are you sure about this?” packed.

I can’t kill the Mets for wanting to pack the place but I think they over-packed the place today (there’s a first) and I can’t believe I am saying this but maybe a better approach would be to (hates self…) let the Dynamic Pricing kick in rather than cram every inch of free space with a standee.

I spent less money today in the ballpark than normal (today’s total was zero) because I couldn’t move.

And may the Lords of Kobol help you if you have to pee.  Plan that an hour in advance.

HERO OF THE DAY

(NSFW Language coming)

Some knucklehead thought he could cut the bathroom line by walking in the out door. This giant 6 for 5 guy went and grabbed the (bleep) and pull him the (bleep) out.  Mr. (rudeness) starting talking (bleep) about “his badge” which we never saw.

I salue you Mr. 6 5 bathroom etiquette enforcer.  You are the hero of the day.

And speaking of etiquette, I saw a few animals partaking in public urination today.  I’m fine with the NYPD hauling you savages away.

Not the most fun day at Citi Field.  I think if they make the playoffs (with the 8:37 start and all) my HDTV might be a way more attractive option.
