Keith Hernandez started his Major League Baseball career with the St. Louis Cardinals and won a World Series and a National League MVP Award playing for the Redbirds, but he will always be remembered as a leader of the rowdy and raucous 1986 World Champion New York Mets.
A lefty first baseman and perennial .300 hitter, Hernandez was one of the top players in baseball in the late 1970s and 1980s. “Mex” was a five-time All Star, an 11-time Gold Glove winner and 1979 N.L. MVP (an award he shared with Pittsburgh’s Willie Stargell). He also was a key member of two World Series winning teams, the 1982 Cardinals and 1986 Mets.
Now a TV broadcaster for the Mets, Hernandez is ready to share his stories about that unforgettable 1986 season and more. He will make an appearance on May 4 at The Cube (450 East 29 Street) in Manhattan as part of an event series produced by Thuzio Executive Club (TEC), a platform that gives members and their guests access to memorable business events featuring pro athletes, coaches and sports personalities. At the same time, Thuzio Executive Club provides these sports celebrities with the chance to tell their stories to an audience of business people as opposed to the usual sports fan crowd.
The upcoming TEC event featuring Hernandez is billed as “Embracing the Big Apple Spotlight.” Moderated by Matt Yallof of MLB Network, it will feature a Q&A session plus cocktails and dinner. Thuzio Executive Club members and their guests can ask Mex about anything from his favorite memories of the 1986 season to his thoughts on the current Mets team to his guest role on Seinfeld as Elaine’s love interest.
TEC has been holding events such as this in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. Other New York sports heroes who have participated are Lawrence Taylor, Roger Clemens, Brian Leetch, CC Sabathia, Steve Weatherford, and John Starks.
“Members of Thuzio Executive Club and their guests can expect the most interesting business evening of the year, each time,” said Mark Gerson, who is co-founder and chairman of the Gerson Lehrman Group and co-founded Thuzio in 2012 with former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber. “The combination of stories that yield enduring lessons directly from the top talent in the sport, the congregation of business leaders at each event, and the ambiance create an experience that our members and their guests remember for months that follow.”
Thuzio Executive Club appears to be thriving as it currently plans on expanding to Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. But first the people of New York City will have the chance to get up close and personal with one of the key players who brought the city a World Series title in 1986, Keith Hernandez.
