I got to go to two Star Wars nights at two ballparks in two cities within one week of each other. I am not going to sugar coat it. The Mets Star Wars nights have been getting weaker and weaker over the years. The first year was fun. They had skits with RA Dickey and some other players, the Star Wars Characters were strewn about the park on the kiss cam and there seemed to be a lot of fun throughout the day.
They started having costume contests hidden down in the bullpen area where no one could see almost like they didn’t want people to see it. There were give away bobble heads and t shirts but only if you bought tickets in the special group section.
This year seemed the weakest of them all even though I got to be a part of the Picture This Game, it just really felt ho hum. The Juan Solo shirt was fun but again they had the costume contest downstairs and did the kiss cam. There were Star Wars characters in the park but very little interaction with the section that were Star Wars fans…
Saturday Night, while with the 7line army invading Coor’s Field, I just happened to get to be at another Star Wars night. The Rockies had a parade of all the Fans in costume walk the warning track. Instead of being just a few hundred fans like in Flushing, the Rockies had at least a thousand fans, maybe more participating in this parade. The “Empire’s Color Guard” came out to the field and stood near home plate while The US Military Color Guard presented the Colors for the National Anthem. They had Star Wars Characters wandering around for photo ops and Denver Comic Con provided back drops, green screens for pics of scenes of the movies, and also had this….
You could be in a blister pack and be an “action figure”.
The Rockies also did line up pics…
So the Rockies were the Rebels aka the “Good Guys”
Of course the Mets were the Galactic Empire-
The first 10,000 fans got this Cargo Fett Bobble Head. The Mets usually only have enough bobble heads for the section they sell the group sale for Star Wars Night and not more then that.
The Mets need to just make the whole ballpark into Star Wars Night. Make it fun. Stop with this group sale garbage. People love Star Wars and will show up if you make it fun. Stop half passing your promotional days and you will have more fans participating in them. The one in Colorado was fun, let’s make it fun in Flushing guys. I’ll help out if you need ideas. A few years ago you guys asked Read the apple and I to help write skits until you got cold feet and didn’t want to have fun because the Mets were having a loser streak. COME ON…
metspolice Nice reporting by Mediagoon. And you know I agree!!!
