If you’re like me you watched the World Series thinking over and over again, man what the hell is with this middle infield. Like the starters kept going deep and then the middle infield would give up runs. Remember when Harvey was great through 8 and then the middle infielders suggested they keep him in, and then Flores gave up a double and Murph gave up like 5 runs?
Anyway, the Mets have fixed what was wrong with the team by revamping the middle infield.
Some questions along the way:
1. I thought Dilson Herrera was a can’t miss super duper All Star. That’s what you guys told me for two years. Guess not.
2. What position does Flores play now? Third?
3. You people that like weirdo made up stats should read this via Sports Illustrated
Cabrera spent 2015 with the Rays, hitting .265/.315/.430 with 15 homers and a 105 OPS (a 12-point gain over 2014), but he was seven runs below average at shortstop according to DRS, and six below via UZR.
4. You people that like stats…(again via Sports Illustrated)
Walker is coming off a solid season on both sides of the ball, albeit one that hints that he may have begun his decline phase. At the plate, the switch-hitter batted .269/.328/.427 with 16 homers and a 107 OPS+, the lowest mark of his career (by one point) and a 19-point drop from 2014.
5. You traded a left handed starting pitcher. Who does that?
Is the team better than it was? I dunno. Maybe they catch a few more balls. Not sure that was the problem.
The 2015 team was flawed. One guy carried the team into the playoffs, and the other guy carried the team in the playoffs. The guy who can’t manage the 9th inning of a World Series game is still there.
These moves neither excite me nor unexcite me, but they are sure a hell of a lot better than picking up the albatross that would have been Zobrist.
