SNY ANNOUNCES PIAZZA MARATHON
Begins Today, January 7 at 1:00pm
[New York, January 7, 2016] – Today, in celebration of former Mets catcher Mike Piazza’s election into Major League Baseball’s Hall of Fame, SNY will air a marathon honoring the slugger. The marathon will kick-off at 1pm with “50 Greatest Mets” and will feature some of Piazza’s most memorable moments as a Met including his homerun versus the Braves following the tragedy on 9/11 and his very first game in a Mets uniform versus Milwaukee.
In addition, at 3pm, SNY will carry Mike Piazza’s LIVE Hall of Fame News conference, and at 6pm, as part of Mets Hot Stove, Steve Gelbs will sit-down with Mike Piazza to look back on his career and how it has culminated with his most recent honor.
Here is a rundown of the full schedule:
· 1:00-2:00pm – 50 Greatest Mets
“The 50 Greatest Mets” counts down the greatest players in club history. Panel members included Mets radio broadcaster Howie Rose, SNY’s play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen, and long-time Mets commentator Ralph Kiner. The program features rare footage and offers contemporary testimonials from current and former players, as well as numerous dignitaries of the sport.
· 2:00-5:00pm – Mets Classics: New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves
“The 9/11 game” featuring Piazza’s game winning homerun.
** Live coverage of Mike Piazza’s news conference will cut-in at 3pm.
Coverage will be anchored by Jonas Schwarz and include Daily News reporter and hall of fame voter John Harper in-studio.
· 5:00-5:30pm – Daily News Live
Host Jonas Schwarz is joined in-studio by John Harper, Anthony McCarron, and Sal Licata to discuss Mike Piazza’s election in the Hall of Fame.
· 5:30-6:00pm – Loud Mouths
Chris Carlin and Marc Malusis discuss Mike Piazza’s election in the Hall of Fame.

Mike Piazza, Bobby Valentine, Al Leiter and former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani reminiscence about the team’s reaction to Sept. 11, 2001, and the decision to resume playing baseball in the wake of the attacks.
