Mets Police has learned that Terry Collins plans to play Cespedes in LF and Lagares in CF. That makes sense since Cespedes won a Gold Glove in LF, Lagares gets compared to Willie Mays in CF, and Cespedes looks like me in CF (believe me not a good thing.)
Still unclear is why most of Spring Training went by with Flores barely getting any reps at first base, but I guess it is safe to assume Duda is good for 1500 innings at first this season.
Also, I know it is Spring and it is just about guys getting work in, but you would think the Guys In Mets Uniforms might accidentally score more runs than the Guys In The Uniform Of Another Team one of these days. Surely one of the opposing minor league pitchers might also be working on “stuff” and give up a run. Remain calm, but panic.
And while I have you and we’re talking Actual Baseball for a change – I know Sandy Alderson is a genius and a Maverick who saved the Mets or something….but let’s be honest, Cespedes wasn’t the first choice (you may recall Flores crying in the dugout). Then Cespedes got unbelievably hot for 6 weeks, then Murphtober happened. Then a lot of losing to the Royals despite the greatest pitching staff of all time ever.
So Cautious Optimism, but this being the Mets, emphasis on Cautious.
