Doc & Darryl mini-review and reaction

mets doc gooden jacket

After last night’s snoozer of a Mets game I got caught up in the 30 for 30 about Gooden and Strawberry.  Wow what a fast paced 90 minutes.  I appreciated that they didn’t dwell on the obvious and spend an hour on the 1986 Mets.

Random thoughts before I run out to soccer:

I think I have blocked out many of the various incidents Gooden and Straw have been through with the law, especially on Strawberry’s end, and maybe that’s because he was out of town more than Doc.

I hope you kids in Generation Piazza got at least a taste for how good Gooden was.  Harvey barely touched that, and only in like two games.  1985 Gooden was unreal.

Disappointed they didn’t show Strawberry’s moonshot in Montreal.

Strawberry was always on his way to the Dodgers. It was very reminiscent of knowing there was no way the Mets were re-signing Murph.  Darryl was going to be out of here no matter what.

Seeing how loved Dwight & Darryl are makes me wonder why they get forgiven but some, including and especially me, are tough on Reyes.  Maybe time heals all wounds?  Dunno.  I have to sort my feelings out on that.

I do remember that by the end of Gooden’s time with the Mets we had all lost patience with him and didn’t care any more, which the documentary got at.

Gooden getting a no-hitter with the Yankees was so so so annoying.

Man their adventures would have made for great blogging.

OK gotta run to soccer.  What did you guys think of it?
