A quick post while I attend the Opening Night of Star Trek Beyond….
From memory, and this is opinion, and I’m no lawyer, when I read the 1961 Robert Moses thing (which you can read about here) that allowed park land to be used to build a stadium, I read it to clearly allow sports arenas to be built. Some folks differ on opinions if it allows for a mall, but to me a sports arena is clear.
Anyways…is anyone shocked that Brooklyn was a terrible idea? Is anyone shocked that the LIRR is not a realistic commute in reverse rush hour? Is anyone shocked that people who attend hockey games want to be able to see the hockey game? Is anyone shocked that it was stupid not to build that arena for hockey?
Queens is not ideal and still a pain in the neck for Suffolk County Hockey Fans, but it’s better. You can drive in. You could leave your car there in the morning if you work in Manhattan. It’s not awesome but better.
Finally, NO TAXPAYER MONEY. If the hockey guys and the Sterling guys want to build an arena that’s nice but let them pay for it, and the roads, and the new parking deck, and everything else.
And while we’re ripping up parking lots and building stuff…call MLS and the SoccerYankees and find a home for those guys too.
