METS PLACE JUAN LAGARES ON DL/BRANDON NIMMO RECALLED
FLUSHING, N.Y., July 29, 2016 – The New York Mets today announced that the club has placed outfielder Juan Lagares on the 15-Day Disabled List with a sprained left thumb and recalled outfielder Brandon Nimmo from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League. Nimmo will wear # 9 is active for tonight’s game versus Colorado.
Nimmo, 23, joins the Mets for a second time this season after being recalled earlier in the season on June 25. He made his major league debut the next day, June 26, at Atlanta to become the 16th player from Wyoming to play in the major leagues. He recorded his first major league hit off Washington’s Joe Ross on June 27 before hitting his first major league home run off Jason Hammel vs. Chicago-NL on July 1. In his 16 games with New York, Nimmo is batting .235 (12-51) with one home run and four RBI.
In nine games with the 51s after being optioned back to Las Vegas on July 18, Nimmo batted .389 (14-36) with one double, two home runs and eight RBI. In 72 games this season for Las Vegas, Nimmo was batting .336 (96-286) with 17 doubles, seven triples, seven home runs, 45 RBI and a .409 OBP.
Lagares, who was also on the 15-Day Disabled List from June 16-July 2 for the same sprained left thumb, was batting .243 (34-140) with seven doubles, two triples, three home runs, eight RBI and 13 runs scored in 70 games this season for the Mets.
