Well this sucks.
Now I can’t say I watched all that much ABL, and I think when they did show the games here they were live which would be like midnight. I was in Australia over Christmas and the games were on in the sports bars (on ESPN if I recall) so it was kind of cool to watch.
In general, watching Pro Sports in Australia is a weird funhouse mirror kind if experience. It was off season for AFL (Australian Football League) which is a great sport, and I often DVR games and watch them later in the say. (It’s pretty easy to avoid the St. Kilda Saints scores in New York). There’s a soccer league, cricket and darts on TV…petty sure there’s a basketball league too. Plus, my phone was sending me updates for Tuesday Afternoon Football (NFL + time zones). Very cool.
Anyway, sad to hear MLB bailed, and hope ABL can somehow figure it out. Might have to load up on some merch.
THE Australian Baseball League will go ahead this season but its future remains in limbo after Major League Baseball ended its lucrative backing of the national competition.
