My lasting memory of Doug Flynn comes from what i think was the Mets’ first fireworks night. I had gotten tickets, we were sitting in the Mezz along third base. I was so so excited. Mets plus Fireworks (I was like 12)!
During the game Doug Flynn homered (? my memory isn’t as good as Greg Prince’s memory) and a little while later there was a big display, made out of sparklers (?) that said DOUG out in left field in the very protozoan version of the picnic area. Wow that was cool.
Doug is another largely forgotten Met who gets mentioned once a year on June 15th. He was part of the Seaver trade, which on paper really wasn’t that bad.
