Just was doing a twitter search for Mets, which is the name of the baseball club I root for, and saw a fully rendered blue and orange logo that said NEW YORK METROPOLITANS.
Now there was a New York Metropolitans in the 19th Century, but unless you were around in 1887 this is not your team.
The current team is named Mets. Part of that is in reference to the team from 130 years ago, and part of your confusion may come from a company called
The New York Metropolitan Baseball Club Inc. operates a baseball team in New York. The company was founded in 1961 and is based in New York, New York. The New York Metropolitan Baseball Club Inc. operates as a subsidiary of Sterling Mets L.P. (Bloomberg)
but the team is the Mets.
So ignore dopey logos on twitter and definitely ignore mustached baseball announcers when they say this nonsense at 7:09pm this summer.
Mets.
Very easy to remember.
