This whole Adam Rubin thing is life changing, and I wanted to expand on some of my own blog snobbery. I discussed some of this with Jason on the podcast but forgot to circle back to a point I had wanted to make.
The Golden Age of Mets Blogging may be over, but I think the Golden Age of Political Blogging may have just begun, and that’s where Mets Bloggers can find inspiration.
Let’s stop off at politics. These are feisty times. The Trump White House leads to two or three debates every single day. What I am seeing out of the political blogs is commentary and insight. Political blogs aren’t wasting time with “Trump Said This” posts. They dive deeper. They analyze. The comment. They provide insight into what things could mean. They don’t wast time with “Could Trump start a war?” which would be the equivalent of “Could the Mets trade Lucas Duda?” (well not to compare a war with trading Lucas Duda, but both are needless empty speculation.)
So back in the Metsosphere – here in the post Rubin age there is an opportunity for someone to lead with smart writing. It won’t be me with my hacky site that is mostly two sentence posts. But somewhere out there is someone smart. Someone who can tie a few sentences together. Provide context and community. Or maybe Faith & Fear already exists and we should all pay more attention to it.
I just searched Google for Mets news. Here’s what I found:
- recapping the off-season Mets moves. Yawn.
- Michael Conforto is going to force the Mets to play him. (Presumably by playing well) Yawn.
- Mets are a now team, Yankees look to future. OK maybe interesting.
- 5 Prospects to watch. Actually helpful!
- 5 Key Questions That Need Answering! Love these. These are like Keys To The Game that tell me to pitch well, hit well, field well and stay healthy.
We can do better folks. Well I can’t, but you could, Someone out there grab the ball and be smarter, better and more insightful. Be the leader in the Silver Age of Blogging. I don’t need your guess work on what Matt Harvey might or might not do this season.
Do things like this one: a mix of snark, recap, prediction, insight, angles and even a pop culture reference. Even if you don’t agree with the premise, it’s way more interesting than Trump Recaps.
